@ : I am 9. I have the same problem, as well. I have a dry mouth, so it may be the problem. Or it may be boredom. It is a bad habit I am getting into! How can I stop?!

I have picked up my habit of eating ice for some werid reaon. I was on a break from eating ice but the reverted back to it. Perhaps it's because of the summer heat, and I crave to be cool and because of the crunch ice has. I also have this thing where if I get too hot I will become sick, one of the reasons I stay in almost all day and only going outside when it is necessary. Also I turn to ice since it has no calories, I am overweight I will admit it and I'm always hungry. I could eat a huge meal, go do something for 10 minutes and come back out looking for more food. It's strange, I know. But if anyone could explain my habits I would be grateful

@ : It could be fine to eat some ice for the summer heat. Everyone does. But if you are overweight and thought there will be no calories in ice, maybe doing exercise can help better. If you hate the hot weather and don't like to be in a complete sweat, swimming is really a good choice.

I have been getting up everyday and go straight to my fridge for a big glass of ice. I did this for over 6 to 7 months I could eat a 20lb bag all by myself within 2 to 3 days.. I finally collapsed found out I had real low iron... I got a prescription for iron pills and now I don't crave ice first thing in the morning anymore

I am a ice eat , because I have Anemia(low iron) I got 7 trays of ice in my freezer and in 2 hours I eat them all, I fill them with water and 1h30 later I start again ,each tray contain 12 blocks of ice , imagine that , I eat ice all day and all night , even when I am at school, I ask my teacher or ice , my excuse to them is : the class is to hot, I'm from Aruba and the sun is really hot , we are known for our sun and beaches...per day I can say I eat more than 500 blocks of ice! my family mmbers are mad at me for eating ice, but I cant stop, how can I stop?

I am also an ice eater, I went to the doctor and they said I was anemic, so I took iron pills 3 times a day for a month, I became so sick, but never got rid of the ice craving, in fact I wanted ice even more! So I stopped taking the iron pills because of the stomach cramps, feeling of fullness, constipated, just miserable! After a few months I did some research and found that I can slowly work my way to the 3 times a day iron pills and the symptoms will subside, hopefully. I do find that if I don't eat ice for a few hours, I get very hot and my mouth gets really dry. I want to stop eating ice so much but the craving is so intense, I'm sure you ask any ice eater, it's like a drug omg! If I'm not eating it, I'm thinking about eating it! I am taking my iron pills now every other day, once a day just because I'm still getting sick, not as bad. But I am also eating more red meats and leafy green veggies that are high in iron. I'm just concerned because I have broke a couple of my teeth....sigh....

I have developed an ice eating habit due to anemia and I cannot deal with the side effects from the Iron supplements. I cannot chew the regular ice cubes from the fridge, to big and solid for me but I love the snow cone ice that you get from some machines. When I can't get my hands on my favorite I'll beat the regular ice in a cloth with a mallet. This could be a help to anyone who's teeth is suffering. When it first started 6 months ago, my tummy went through an adjustment period with some discomfort for 2-3 weeks. Aside from being cold when it's cold no other issues. I am also overweight and have lost a few pounds recently.

I have been eating ice cubes since years now. I am not anemic, malnourished or anything. However, its not like I am compelled to eat ice, I can go for days without eating ice if needed to (eg while travelling, outside etc), but when at home, I usually have one small tray per night or so.

@ : @ Nelli, I have several ice cube trays in my freezer that I constantly eat & fill back up probably every 45 min. My trick is I don't fill them up all the way, so they are half the size of a ice cube & easy to eat... #iceaddict

This article is very informative. I can say that I do crave ice, visited my GP to find out the reason why, was that my iron level was dangerously low and I am anemic. I was placed on strong iron pills and I do not have the craving for ice anymore. However, when I fail to take my iron pills for a length of time, the craving for ice comes back; this is when I know that my iron levels are down again. Craving ice can mean that your body is telling you that it is lacking something-in this case iron.

@ : This is great news! I also chew ice. I buy crushed ice on a weekly basis, it has become apart of the must have grocery list. My husband will go at midnight if he has to if I run out of ice. I have been told by many doctors I was anemic and low iron. I've also had blood transfusions. My blood count stays low. I've had cyst to burst and surgeries. I've also had internal bleeding in which they could not find the reason why I keep having these issues. I always feel nausea after or during a meal. I turn to my ice and nexium. The iron pills do not really help me. I'm glad to know others have similar issues so now my husband will understand a lil bit more.

@ : I did break my granny's fridge by srubbing it at the back and it has a taste like soil. They keep telling me to stop but I can't and I am only 16 years old. I always scrub it with a spoon. I want to stop this addiction, it's not good at all
