Dear, lazy, bee hater, We are loosing our pollinators at an alarming rate. Keep killing them and a piece of fruit will cost more than your car. Want to keep carpenter bees from knawing your wood? Get off your lazy but and paint your bare wood. They won't touch painted wood. And stop polluting me world with pesticides.

@ : O pk, I've seen carpenter bees attack painted wood. Your advice is worthless.

@ : Pk, I am a State Licensed Building contractor in N.E.Georgia...I have a lot of customers with bee problems...I do agree with you as far as the "pollinators" theory...but we cannot just sit back and let them destroy our homes. In most cases paint does not work, and stain is even less effective...even high quality stains such as Sikkens brand products don't work. Other solutions that are Eco friendly can be put in place for some of the situations, such as hiring a good contractor to site bend aluminum color coordinated metal and install it over the fascia and install vinyl in the soffit of the home....screen the underside of your deck will rolled screening...replace wooden deck members with composite materials, replace other components of the homes exterior with composite materials instead of chasing bee holes forever....all of these products are also highly resistant to rot and decay and add value to the home. The original builder in most cases does not care how long things last, they keep me in business...Another cause for the increasing amount of bee damage, is that the wood treatment for so called pressure treated wood of today's variety commonly used for deck building, no longer contains the highly resistant chemicals that it use to...due to its supposed more Eco friendly composition. When I build a deck from pressure treated lumber in the springtime here, sometimes the bees get into the wood before I finish the job!!! The real problem begins in summer, that is when the woodpeckers attach the bee infestations to eat the bee larvae!!!Good luck everyone...Ed Weiler

Dear pk, My deck is painted and they still attacked it, so keep your ignorant theories to yourself.

They are eating our barn. Despite paint, wood putty and Steele wool. Traps caught 2. Is there no real solution other than a tennis racquet??

Yes....they attack stained wood also. We have a log home and they are boring into our soffits and eaves. Exterminators are of no help because scaffolding would have to be set up around the entire house. We are to the point that next spring we are going to rip the wood off and just put up aluminum or vinyl to match the cedar stain and be done with them????

I have a cabin in the mountains and I to have this bee problem as well. Covered the holes that I can reach but they just bore new ones. I'm at the point is to sell and get out of dodge. Don't know what else to do at this point. Biggest problem is the hard to reach areas. Like someone else said, I need scaffolding to reach the areas that are the worst. My house was completely bleach, holes filled and stained 1 year ago and now I have bore holes again in numerous places.

Well my carpenter bees seem to like my vinyl soffit. Hmm . Thought I would catch these two wing Thumbelina bees and find a nice forest where the fairies need transportation. They just buzz my face and look at me like I'm the biggest fairy they seen.

Tried the steel wool method. Didn't work. The bees just pulled the steel wool back out of the holes.

Carpenter bees are very important so instead of trying to "kill" or get rid of them, why not learn to prevent an infestation or prevent them from building nests in your wood? As a previous comment mentioned, they are very important pollinators and we don't want to loose them. Before you go ahead and kill them, just use simple methods to make your wood less attractive.
